The Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Institute of Health Sciences (PAPRSB IHS) of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) is working hand-in-hand with the Society for the Management of Autism-Related Issues in Training, Education and Resources (SMARTER) to organise a charity musical performance on September 22nd and 23rd.

The show, entitled “Looking Through the Autism Wonderland”, is the 5th concert produced by SMARTER and is set to be held at the International Convention Centre, Berakas. The main cast comprises SMARTER children and youths with autism in an exciting adaptation of the classic, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

The collaboration between IHS and SMARTER is the first of its kind and is a project conceived by Team ALICE (Appreciating the Lives of Individuals With Autism and Celebrating their Excellence), a group of 3rd year medical students, as part of a community outreach Special Study Module. It aims to enhance autism awareness in the Sultanate as well as to generate funds of up to $100,000 for the continuity of SMARTER.

The same group of students has so far succeeded in raising nearly $1,700 from donations and garage sales in a bid to fund the upcoming theatre event.

“We are confident that the SMARTER children will deliver a tour de force that will move the people in the audience. They have been working hard and are excited to give their best performance, so we encourage everyone to attend the event.” – Wardatul Ramzuna, one of the students behind Team ALICE.

“Members of the public are invited to see the feature show on Saturday, 22nd September at 7PM. For this event, we made the initiative to go paperless ticket by implementing e-ticketing system, sold at: $35, $45, $65, and $80. Please visit the website or simply contact +673 7141411 or visit our official Instagram page @autismwonderland for further information and update.” – Khairuddin Khalid, another member of Team ALICE.

The Sunday, 23rd September matinee at 2PM is exclusively for Year 10 and Lower Sixth Form students from selected schools.

The project is supported by numerous local companies such as Standard Chartered, BIBD, Mashhor Group of Companies, Progresif Cellular Sdn Bhd, Dotroot Technologies, Othman and Associates Consulting Engineers, Thomson Furniture, Printmartz Advertising.
